High Five Tour Stop #15: Philadelphia, PA
Making History
Happy Birthday America!! It was July 4th 2010 and we made it to Philadelphia, PA for the 2010 Independence Day Parade. We were thrilled to be at Independence Hall where it all started and we had a mission. Our goal was to set a new Guinness World Record for The Most High Fives Given In A 24 Hour Period. The current record was set in Rode Island by Blake Rodgers back in 2008 when he high fived 3,151 people at a Dunkin Donuts in Providence. Well Blake, it’s time to step aside and give up the throne to the High Five Tour.
The press knew we were coming. The people knew what we were doing and we had set aside a High Five Card for each high five given out. 3,250 cards in total. The colonel’s job was to go along side the parade route and high five every single person he could until the record (or his hand) was broken.
We were a little light on support staff but the parade organizers helped us and sent up a few volunteers. Both Zach and Ashley were fantastic help and we’d like to thank them as well as Todd the parade manager because we could not have done this event without their support.
By the end of the parade we have given out all of our cards and a gazillion high fives. The record was broken and our video is being sent to Guinness so they can officiate and name Colonel John Folsom as the new High Five King!
