High Five Tour Stops #26-29

Apologies

As you might have seen in an earlier post my camera which I had brought along to take the tour’s photos with was lost or stolen along with the SD card with about 400 pictures on it that hadn’t been uploaded to our galleries yet. I’m still holding out a little hope that this camera will be found and returned.

Nevertheless the trip carried on.

Plano, TX

After a good nights rest we started our morning in Plano where we stopped off at a Ford Dealer to have the oil changed on our Shelby Mustang. The car has been absolutely wonderful, everyone loves it and we needed to make sure it stays in good condition.

We will be auctioning the car off after the trip and the money will go to support the Wounded Warrior Family Support organization and the families that it benefits.

We got the oil changed and had a quick tune up and inspection done. Soon it was time to get back on the road but not before we high fived the mechanics and had them sign the car.

Home of the Ugly Crust Pies

We pulled off of an exit in what appeared to be the absolute middle of no where. There were a few small buildings around but everything seemed closed or abandoned. I had no idea what we were doing but the colonel seemed to have an idea. A few minutes later we pulled into the Midpoint Diner.

Midpoint is a little place on the original Route 66 Highway. It is the exact midpoint on Route 66. Los Angeles is 1,139 miles west and Chicago is 1,139 miles east.

We stopped off for lunch and I had the best Texas Cheeseburger I’ve ever eaten and some warm apple “ugly crust” pie with ice cream. The waitresses and manager came out to sign our car and take some pictures. We added their bumper sticker to our rear window and continued on our trip.

Albuquerque

We made a quick stop in New Mexico’s capital city which is also where the Colonel spent a good portion of his youth. He showed me around town where he used to live and go to school. You could tell he was reminiscing about his old life. It is a beautiful city and he grabbed some dinner before we headed out to our next stop.

Holbrook, Globe and Phoenix

On our way down to Phoenix we made a stop at Holbrook, AZ where we were invited to a local Harley Club invited the Colonel to their meeting. He gave a short speech about what we were all about and then proceeded with the high fiving. Afterwards we toured around town a little and headed on.

In A small town called Globe, AZ the colonel met up with the High Performance Mustang Club and they rode in with him into Phoenix. You can take a look at the great pictures they took here We had hopes of doing some interviews and meeting up with Phoenix’s mayor for a high five but he was unavailable. We gave the good people some high fives before we left.
