High Five Tour Stop #31: Fort Irwin, CA
Visiting the 11th ACR
We headed out of Vegas and sped across the desert trying to stick to our tight tour schedule and beat the heat. On recommendation of General John Sylvester we decided to check out Fort Irwin before we made it to Los Angeles.
Fort Irwin is not hard to find if you know what you are looking for but you could drive passed it on the interstate every single day going to work and never notice it. With directions we got off at the exit and drove our Mustang down the only road in and out of Fort Irwin. Even until the list minute we couldn’t see it until finally the sandy hills opened up and revealed the little town.
We we’re greeted by some soldiers and they took us on a quick tour. Afterward we high fived and let them sign our car. We also took some time to explain to the soldiers about the family vacation programs that Wounded Warriors Family Support offers.
We got to see a small training simulation where a convoy of trucks came under attack and saw some IED explosions. The 11th ACR offered us one of their stickers which we placed on the Mustang’s windows.
Next Up for the Tour: Los Angeles, CA
